Already this spring, TVN will broadcast series that previously could only be watched by Player.pl users – in accordance with the method developed on the example of the series about Joanna Chyłka. Both “Pajęczyna” with Joanna Kulig and “Skazana”, which was a display of Agata Kulig’s abilities, were very popular with viewers: both of these items were included in the list of the most popular Player Original series titles. Now we’ll see if they can do just as well on traditional television.
In the spring, TVN has two premieres with Oscar-winning actresses on TVN
Agata Kulesza in the Oscar-winning “Ida” played the role of the aunt of the title character – the communist prosecutor Wanda Gruz. It is worth remembering, because in the record-breaking audience on Player.pl “Skazana” again played a representative of the judiciary, judge Alicja Mazur. This one is known for her particular severity towards criminals and the high sentences which she confers – she is even a local star of the judiciary. Until one day her world turns upside down: during her wedding, she finds a murdered woman in the bathroom. She is innocent, but as a result of a cruel conspiracy, she is accused of her murder and sentenced to prison. Worse, she is sent to the exact prison where the women she is trying to serve are serving their sentences.
Alicja is in a very difficult situation: not only has her faith in the system she created and represented has collapsed. He also has to somehow cope in a place where he really has only enemies. Anyone else would collapse, but not her. She quickly learns that the cell is a place that changes everyone – it also changes. She is kept alive by a teenage daughter and a desire to take revenge on those who set her up.
– It was an interesting experience when I went to the set, changed into my uniform and from that moment most of my fellow actresses started to challenge me, of course in the role, said Agata Kulesza when we talked with her before the premiere of the series. Let us remind you that the actress is not the only person with Oscar-winning experience who worked on “The Condemned”. It should not be overlooked that Bartosz Konopka, nominated for an Oscar for the short documentary “Rabbit a la Berlin”, was responsible for directing.
The script of “Skazana” was created on the basis of Ewa Ornacka’s book “Skazane na potępienie”. Additionally, many of the characters presented in the series are inspired by real criminals, known from the headlines. In addition to Agata Kulesza, the series features: Michał Czernecki (Paweł Witkowski, Alicja’s husband), Bartłomiej Topa (Piotr Serafin, Alicja’s friend), Martyna Byczkowska (Hania, Alicja’s daughter), Aleksandra Adamska (Pati, prisoner), Tomasz Schuchardt (head of the penitentiary) , Marta Malikowska (“Kosa”, prisoner), Marta Ścisłowicz (Basia, doctor in the prison infirmary), Jan Jankowski (Bednarek, Paweł’s lawyer), Joanna Gonschorek (“Swieta”, guard), Maria Kania (Marika, prisoner), Monika Dawidziuk (“Amfisa”, prisoner), Hanna Klepacka (“Campina”, prisoner) and Natalia Sikora (Szkudlarek, guard).
Joanna Kulig on the trail of an intrigue straight from the People’s Republic of Poland. In the background, a Polish neutron bomb
“Pajęczyna” with Joanna Kulig in the lead role is a series thriller, which was difficult to experience in Poland before. Firstly, the plot is inspired by little-known facts from Polish history and tells about the research on the neutron bomb conducted during Gierek’s times. Secondly, the plot was run quite skillfully on two timelines, one of them takes place in the People’s Republic of Poland, the other in 2010. Joanna Kulig said in an interview with Kultura.gazeta.pl: “I really liked the script” Cobwebs’ and the character of Cornelia – I haven’t played such a heroine yet.
The main character of the production is Kornelia Titko (Joanna Kulig), who is endowed with an unusual, photographic memory. She followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a scientist – she studies the life of spiders on a daily basis. The premature death of her parents and older sister, who died in a tragic car accident, had a huge impact on her life. Or so it seems over the years of Cornelia. After she is an adult and has a son herself in college, one day she receives a mysterious message from a man who confesses to her that he was once accused of murdering her sister.
Kornelia – as a racial scientist – begins to delve into family history (and not only). She absolutely wants to find out who the man who told her about his sister’s murder really is. He must also find out what he had to do with the death of her mother, who was not living the quiet life of an exemplary science hostess. Teresa Titko was a specialist in nuclear physics and such an outstanding specialist that she worked as the right hand of General Professor Grzegorz Giedrowicz – the commander-in-chief of the Polish atomic research program. Before completing the project, she died under strange circumstances.
As part of a private investigation, Cornelia discovers that the case was also involved in officers of the PRL counterintelligence, Captain Ewa Wolańska and Second Lieutenant Tadeusz Mrz. It also rubs against discovering the answer to the question of who wanted Poland not to have its own nuclear weapons. Apart from Joanna Kulig, the cast also includes: Eryk Lubos, Michalina Olszańska, Anna Radwan, Mateusz Banasiuk, Szymon Bobrowski, Marek Kalita, Andrzej Grabowski, Mirosław Baka and Edyta Olszówka. Let us add that Andrzej Grabowski played the role of secretary Edward Gierek.
