The choreography ‘Diliculum’ inaugurates the ninth International Sound and Movement Festival organized by Espol

Zona Scene and Espol have prepared this piece of video dance that can be seen on Facebook and YouTube by Espol Cultural (@ESPOLcultural).

Those who have visited the Gustavo Galindo campus of the Espol (in the La Prosperina sector) they know that said university coexists with a lush vegetation that has adapted to the human presence. And vice versa.

In that context, Scene Zone and the Litoral Polytechnic School they have prepared the choreography Diliculum, a dance number that inhabits the places appropriate for nature and its changes caused by the passage of time in this study center, especially in spaces where human presence is limited.

This video dance piece, of five minutes, will be inaugurated this Wednesday October 27 at 10:00 the ninth edition of the International Sound and Movement Festival, which will be broadcast on Facebook and YouTube of Espol Cultural (@ESPOLcultural).

The name refers to dawn, in Latin, explains the dancer and choreographer Jorge Parra, who along with the actor Mario Suarez directed this unpublished proposal. In it the interpreters have improvised movements, aligning their own body languages, for each chosen location: the area behind the Library, by the Faculty of Social and Humanistic Sciences; the staircase of the Rectorate; the lake; the teak forest, and the cane plantations. The dancers are Gloria Febres-Cordero (flamenco), Aglae Febres-Cordero (ballet) and Patricia galarza (folkloric), teachers from Espol.

“Thus we were finding how the body and color and what each one does they dialogue with these places ”, adds Parra. This dialogue with the environment is also visually reflected in the costumes of the dancers, whose strong colors (fuchsia, orange and blue) contrast with the greens and ocher of the environment.

The melody for Diliculum it is also a fresh and original initiative, he explains Gloria Febres-Cordero, one of the producers of the activities of this festival. “They have mixed prerecorded sounds to recreate those commonly heard on campus, such as the rustling leaves, car whistles and birdsong”.

The International Sound and Movement Festival (SMOV 2021) seeks to become a platform for diffusion of the arts, addressing the internationalization and education of the cutting edge practicesFebres-Cordero points out. It is a meeting point for various branches of dance with novelties in music creation, where electronic pieces and video art stand out.

The meeting will last for five days, until Sunday, October 31, combining 35 events, between virtual, face-to-face and hybrids, which include master classes, screenings and live presentations electronic music, ballet classical, flamenco and folkloric, urban and inclusive dances.
