Latin music is the protagonist of the 34th edition of Lo Nuestro Award, which will award the best of the best. Among the 35 categories that will be awarded is the artist of the year.
Ten candidates compete to be artist of the year, of them, five are Colombian: Camilo, J Balvin, Karol G, Maluma and Sebastián Yatra, all of them from Medellín. Also included are Mexicans Christian Nodal, Ángela Aguilar and Grupo Firme, as well as Puerto Ricans Bad Bunny and Rauw Alejandro.
Most of this group of artists enjoy great recognition for their countless hits with their songs. Of them, Camilo, Nodal and J Balvin are the most nominated artists for this award: they have ten. They are followed by Bad Bunny and Karol G, with nine nominations each; while Caliber 50, Carlos Rivera, Farruko, Jhay Cortez, Maluma, Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro appear in eight categories.
Below is a brief review of the trajectory of Colombian artists.
Camilo. He is 27 years old. He is married to Evaluna Montaner, daughter of Ricardo Montaner. On Instagram he has more than 26 million followers. On YouTube he has more than 14.8 million subscribers, and among his topics is Indigo, which he premiered to announce his wife’s pregnancy. He was nominated and won at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico; in the same way, at the Grammys and the Latin Grammys; as well as in the Premios Nuestra Tierra, Premio Lo Nuestro and Premios Juventud.
J Balvin. He is 36 years old. In 2021 he became a father. Throughout his career he has won several awards and nominations, including Latin Grammys and Billboard Music Awards. His most recent release is dreamy boy. He has more than 51.6 million followers on Instagram. On YouTube he has 33.1 million subscribers.
Carol G. He is 31 years old. She has garnered nominations and awards at the American Music Awards, Latin American Music Awards, Billboard Latin American Music Awards, Latin Grammys, Premios Juventud, among others. On Instagram she has 49.1 million followers. He has 19.4 million subscribers on YouTube.
Maluma. He is 28 years old. She has obtained several awards and nominations in music, in Billboard Music Award, Latin Billboard, MTV Europe Music Awards, Premios Tu Mundo, among others. She recently made her film debut with her colleague Jennifer Lopez, in the film marry me. He has 28.2 million subscribers on YouTube.
Sebastian Yatra. He is 27 years old. Yatra’s career has a path similar to that of his compatriots in terms of awards and nominations. He was a winner at the Ascap Latin Awards, at the Latin American Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, MTV Millennial Awards. In the Grammy and Latin Grammy he has been nominated several times, mainly in the last section. In the cinema, the singer performs the song two caterpillars in the movie Charm. He has 29 million followers on Instagram. He has 16.92 million subscribers on YouTube.
A total of 166 artists have been included in the nominations. Among its new categories are DJ of the Year, Song of the Year-Pop-Urban/dancing and perfect mix of the year.
The award ceremony will be held at the FTX Arena in Miami, this Thursday, February 24. The ceremony will be conducted this year by Alejandra Espinoza, Yuri and Gabriel Soto. It will be broadcast live on Univision from 19:00. (AND)
