Judge blocks release of additional records, including photos and videos, from investigation into Bob Saget’s death

A Florida judge on Wednesday granted a temporary injunction blocking the release of additional records related to the investigation of the death of actor and comedian Bob Saget.

The judge’s decision comes after the Saget’s family filed a lawsuit Tuesday for block the publication of certain records, citing privacy concerns.

Saget, 65It was found dead in his hotel room in Orlando, Florida, last month. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that his death was accidentalmost likely due to falling backwards and hitting his head.

On Tuesday, Saget’s widow, Kelly Rizzo, and her three daughters sued against the Orange County Sheriff and Medical Examiner’s Office, requesting that some death-related investigation records are exempt from public disclosure due to their graphic nature in the way they portray the late actor.

“In the process of these investigations, the defendants created records that include photographs, video recordings, audio recordings, autopsy information protected by law and all other information protected by law,” the lawsuit states. “Under information and belief, some of these records graphically depict Mr. Saget, appearance or characteristics of him, or portions of him.”

The family argues in the lawsuit that releasing this information, whether through a public records request or any other avenue, would cause them to “irreparable damage in the form of extreme mental pain and emotional distress”.

In court documents obtained by WESH, an affiliate of CNN, Ninth Circuit Court Judge Vincent Chiu agreed and granted the motion. Brian Bieber, an attorney for the Saget family, told CNN that the precautionary measure was filed for “prevent the release of photographs or videos of Mr. Saget taken by authorities during their investigation”.

The facts of the investigation must be made public, but these materials must remain private out of respect for the dignity of Mr. Saget and his family..
