The history of cats, or how a wild animal became man’s best friend

The treatment of cats in many cultures left something to be desired, from caging to mutilation and torture. It didn’t really stop until the 19th century, when humans appreciated cats for their ability to protect food from pests and rodents. Currently, they are one of the most popular pets.
