For the first time in history, the Oscar Awards will open their voting to the public and will recognize the film with the most votes on Twitter, as announced by the Hollywood Academy.
From today until next March 3, Internet users will be able to choose their favorite movie using the hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite and also select the scene with which they enjoyed the most this year under the slogan #OscarsCheerMoment.
The best messages will be included in the broadcast of the gala, on March 27 and, in addition, the Academy will raffle three trips to next year’s ceremony among all the participants, where the winners will be able to present one of the prizes. In addition to Twitter, you can also vote for your favorite film from the organization’s website.
“The Oscars are an opportunity to unite people from all over the world with their love for cinema and through these activities, social network users now have more opportunities to interact with the gala in real time, form a community and be part of it. experience,” Academy vice president of digital marketing Meryl Johnson said in a statement.
The organization has explained that it will simply “recognize” the most voted film, which may not be nominated for awards, but the initiative does not inaugurate any official category.
In 2019, after several years in which the audience for the Oscars was plummeting, the Academy proposed the creation of a category that would reward the most “popular” film of the year, but the idea did not prosper.
His intention was to attract the audience of ‘blockbusters’, such as the Marvel, DC Comics and Star Wars franchises, without the need to include them in their general categories, reserved for auteur films or films from the independent circuit. In fact, this year none of the ten films nominated for best picture is among the ten highest grossing films of the season.
