Antonio Resines reveals the consequences he suffers: muscle loss and 80% atrophy that force him to use a walker

Despite the harshness of the situation experienced, Antonio Resines is optimistic and grateful to be alive. The actor, who spent more than a month in the ICU as a result of COVID, continues to face the consequences of the virus on a daily basis. “I will recover, but it is slow and complicated and it takes effort”, he has confessed in El Hormiguero, in his first public appearance.

And it is that throughout these weeks admitted, Resines has gone through a limit situation. Death has touched him. He has seen too many ICU colleagues die. For this reason, he highlights the importance of public health and taking care of his professionals. “There are people who are amazing, they study, they leave their lives… There were 14 shifts to attend to the 97 people who were in the ICU, we have saved 80“, he adds excitedly. “We must support public health in any way, it has saved our lives,” he adds.

The ravages that the virus has wrought on him are evident. The actor confesses that he gets very tired when speaking and that he suffers from “80% atrophy”, has lost muscle and needs the help of a walker to be able to walk. In spite of everything, he is grateful to be able to tell it today. “I’ve gotten rid of one, man, that’s the summary,” he confesses to Pablo Motos.

At first he didn’t see it coming. “I was fine until I felt a little fever. I tested positive and it was a week (at home) of debacle coughing and very bad,” he recounts. At that point, they took him to the hospital and from then on he no longer remembers anything of the 48 days that he has remained in the hospital complex (36 days in the ICU and 12 on the ward).

“I thought five days had passed, like a little blackout and when I woke up on the 20th of January. I was scared.” He also remembers that during his admission he experienced strange sensations: “You live in a very strange world that has points in common with reality and you have a really bad time because you don’t control,” he says.

He reveals how he had to use all his strength to survive to the point of cutting off all communication with the outside world. “When you enter they have to take away your mobile because maybe you gain some quality and response to the disease. I was wearing myself out, I was using air that was good for me“, he acknowledges. And it is that the actor at first, so that his friends and family were not very worried, kept in touch with them. Now he admits that he does not remember very well what he was talking about.

For all this, Antonio Resines wanted to leave a final message: “That everyone get vaccinated and take it seriously, which is a very serious thing.”
