Netflix will show “Because there is sex in me”. When is the premiere of the film about Kalina Jêdrusik?

is definitely one of the most charismatic Polish actresses of the 20th century, not without reason she was called “the Polish Marylin Monroe”. In addition to her acting talent, remarkable personality and beauty, the actress had a beautiful voice: her interpretations of the songs of Kabaret Starszych Panów have become a permanent part of the history of Polish pop culture. Jędrusik was an unconventional person, which is why director Katarzyna Klimkiewicz decided to create an unusual biographical film.

Netflix will show “Because there’s sex in me.” The premiere is in March

“will appear on Women’s Day, on March 8. This information pleased the users of the platform very much, who under the post on Facebook with the information about the premiere of the film write:” You have had my heart a long time, now you have my soul “,” Wow, come on I’m happy. I did not make it to the cinema, great gift for Women’s Day “,” Another movie I am waiting for impatiently “,” I was chatting for this movie in the cinema, but it’s hard to get … And now we will have a home screening with my friends ” “I was at the cinema and I am delighted, I recommend it”, “I was at the cinema, but I will be happy to watch it again”, “A wonderful film. The actress sings alone. He plays very well !!! “,” Awesome! Can not wait”.

It should be emphasized that this production is not a standard biography. Instead, the director and screenwriter decided to focus on one – but important – episode in Kalina Jędrusik’s life. To show the actress’s charisma, they created a story about how Jędrusik dealt with the conflict with the director of TVP that threatened her career.

In this story, the television manager, dazed with desire, blocks Jędrusik from appearing in front of the public: it is revenge for her refusing to have an affair with him. The authors of course emphasize that the script is only their idea of what could have happened, but at the same time they show a colorful image of the artistic milieu and fashion of the 1960s. Leszek Lichota played the role of Kalina Jędrusik’s husband, Stanisław Dygat. This is an interesting exception in his repertoire – the actor is usually associated with the roles of policemen and detectives.

On the screen we will also see other colorful figures of Polish culture: Kazimierz Kutz (Borys Szyc), Tadeusz Konwicki (Paweł Tomaszewski) or the creators of the Old Gentlemen’s Cabaret – Jeremi Przybora (Rafał Rutkowski) and Jerzy Wasowski (Dariusz Basiński). An interesting flavor is also the role of Krzysztof Zalewski, who plays Luck – Jędrusik’s lover, who lives with her and her husband in a love triangle. The character is fictional, but based on real people around the actress.

Dębska herself put a lot of effort into playing Kalina Jędrusik reliably. It’s not just that she gained nine kg for the movie, wore corsets, high heels every day and read all the possible books about her heroine. In an interview with Legal Culture, she described what the process looked like:

Preparations for the role of Kalina Jędrusik were long and complex. I talked to a lot of people who knew her personally, read everything written about her, and watched all of her performances as well. When I did that, I had to wonder what she was like when she got up in the morning, how she was privately. I had to take these things from these stories, books, biographies. I did some research and, interestingly, I had the feeling that everyone was telling me about a different person.

Until I got confused and decided that I had to cut myself off a bit. I can’t listen to everyone because sometimes these stories were completely contradictory. Someone told me ‘she always did that’ and someone else, who was also close to her, said ‘she never did that’ or ‘she never said it’. At times I thought I was going crazy. In the end, I only trusted a few people. At the end of the photos, I only talked to one or two people who knew her well. Whenever I had any questions, I could always ask them.

In addition, she also underwent special vocal training to be able to sing like Jędrusik – reliably and at the same time freely. All nine songs that we will hear in the film were performed by Maria Dębska.
