Cannon salutes in London for the 70th anniversary of the reign of Elizabeth II

A royal regiment fired 41 cannon salvos on Monday in London’s Green Park, near Buckingham Palace, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth II’s reign, although the official celebrations will be in June.

The Royal Regiment of Artillery fired the cannon shots in this central location, where a large number of people gathered this morning to closely follow the event.

The cannon shots were fired a day after Elizabeth II celebrated 70 years of her accession to the throne, which occurred after the death of her father, King George VI, on February 6, 1952.

The official celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee, with street parties and a mass in St Paul’s Cathedral (London), will take place between June 2 and 5.

On the occasion of this date, the sovereign issued a statement to thank the support of citizens during these seven decades and indicate that it was her wish that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, receive the title of queen consort when her son and heir, Prince Charles , succeed her one day on the throne.

Charles and Camilla were married in Windsor in April 2005, almost eight years after the death of Diana of Wales, former wife of the Prince of Wales, in an accident in Paris in August 1997. (I)
