“Moonfall” is a story about three astronauts who must go into space to stop the impending apocalypse. A mysterious force ejects the Moon from its orbit. As a result, the satellite begins to get closer to the Earth every day. If it collides with a planet, everyone and everything will be destroyed. We are weeks away from the collision, when former NASA astronaut and director Jocinda “Jo” Fowler (played by Oscar-winning Halle Berry) comes up with an idea how to save the world from destruction. The problem is that only ex-friend Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson, “Midway”) and conspiracy theorist KC Houseman (John Bradley, “Game of Thrones”) believe in her plan. The three not so well-coordinated will set off on a mission and try to save the world. By the way, they will discover the secret hiding on the dark side of the moon.
Polish woman in Emmerrich’s film “Moonfall”
The director of “Moonfall” is Roland Emmerich, a specialist in spectacular catastrophe films, who has made both high-budget science fiction performances (“Independence Day”, “The Day After Tomorrow”) and film frescoes based on historical events about people fighting for life and values ( “Patriot”, “Midway”). Together with many years of partners: composer and producer Harald Kloser and screenwriter Spenser Cohen, they wrote a script in which they combined the best traditions of science fiction film spectacles with an engaging story of unusual characters.
Oscar winner Halle Berry describes her character as follows: “A maddenedly intelligent grandmother who has learned to function efficiently in the male world. All women in high positions at NASA are intelligent, strong, self-aware. what makes them unique. Fowler is stubborn at the same time, if she denies something, she will do anything to achieve her goal. I love characters, film women who are not obvious, I love film mothers who can show fortitude and love ” emphasizes Berry. Interestingly, Fowler was supposed to be a male hero at first. “I am extremely grateful to Roland for noticing a female character in Fowler and daring to change her gender in the script, because thanks to this the film did not lose, but gained” – the actress emphasizes.
An important person in Fowler’s life is the astronaut Brian Harper, played by Patrick Wilson. Harper was once Fowler’s closest friend, but an event in the past brought them together forever. “I think I can venture to say that Fowler was something of a ‘professional wife’ to Harper at NASA. They were inseparable, they understood each other without words,” explains Halle Berry. “They were really close, but one day there was a painful misunderstanding that destroyed the relationship that had been built over the years. He took the blame, though he didn’t have to, but the ties with Fowler were badly damaged. When we meet them in the film, they are given a chance by fate. to fix everything. They realize that neither of them was right then, but also that neither of them was wrong.

– Brian is going through a difficult time. He cannot find a job, he has lost the trust of those who could help him, “says Patrick Wilson more about his hero.” He is a former astronaut who is still struggling with something he accidentally experienced during one of the missions. However, he is far from a classic film astronaut, he resembles a crazy scientist who lives in his own world, which makes him different from the more down-to-earth, rational Fowler. Harper harbors a kind of disgust towards his old friend for staying with NASA, but largely because he feels guilty about a failed space mission a few years ago. His marriage broke up, he can’t get along with his son, he has to work on himself a lot “- explains the character’s motivation.
The role of Harper’s ex-wife, Brenda Lopez, was played by Carolina Bartczak – an actress with Polish roots. “Their marriage fell apart because Brian was unable to cope with his failure at NASA. In fact, he made her leave with his behavior – she did it not only for herself, but also for Sonny, to protect the young boy from his father falling into increasing depression and alcohol addiction “- says the actress. Brenda finally married Tom Lopez, played by Michael Peña. “Sonny has never forgiven her for leaving Brian. He has become a good example of an angry, emotionally charged teenager, and Brenda has been forced by life to fight not only for her son’s attention, but also for her new family. She doesn’t want her next marriage to fall apart. “- reveals Bartczak.
Carolina Bartczak is a Canadian actress, but her parents are Polish – they left the country during martial law and moved to Germany. Carolina was born there – after a few years, the whole family moved to Canada, where the future actress was brought up. Parents made sure that they speak their mother tongue at home – Carolina speaks fluent Polish and is a very warm and open-minded person – assures the Polish distributor of Mooonfall, Monolith Films.
Before Carolina Bartczak became an actress, she studied biochemistry. Already in college, she saw the screening of “The Lord of the Rings” and understood that acting is what you want to devote yourself to in your professional life. Her career goes steadily and in an increasingly interesting direction: she starred with Paul Walker in “Brick Mansions”, appeared alongside Neil Patrick Harris in “Smurfs 2”, and her most popular role was in “X-Men: Apocalypse”, where she starred at the side of Michał Fassbender, who really tried hard to speak Polish – which she has no major problems with.
Bartczak recently gave an interview and revealed that her background aroused great enthusiasm for her ex-husband, Partick Wilson:
I was delighted when it turned out that Dagmara Domińczyk, wife of Patrick Wilson, comes from Poland. She lived there until the age of ten, she is very connected with this country and speaks Polish fluently. Patrick himself loves Poland. Ever since he found out where I came from, he has not left me behind. “Do you like pierogi? Which are the most? Have you been to Łódź?” – he asked me a million questions a minute! At one point, the director had to call him to order in order to allow everyone to work. But Patrick was very nice and he really loves our country.
– He has already visited a large part of Poland, actually even larger than I am. It was great to hear about his adventures. He wanted to participate in one of the Polish film festivals, but unfortunately he ran out of time. We talked about food, the family and his wife, with whom he traveled together. Patrick is a really nice person. We were connected by Poland and everyone said that we can see that our cooperation is going very well – she told Artur Zaborski. As it turns out, the role in “Moonfall” caught the attention of other filmmakers – after shooting Emmerich, she was offered six roles in a row. There is nothing left but to keep your fingers crossed for further successes.
