Chanel received only 3.9% of the popular vote at the Benidorm Fest compared to 70% of Tanxugueiras

Radio Televisión Española has held a new press conference to reiterate the legality of the results of the Benidorm Fest, in which the jury prevailed over the bet of the public and decided that Chanel would represent Spain at Eurovision 2022.

After remarking that at no time were the rules of the event breached, Alfonso Morales has broken down the votes of each of the ‘jurors’ endorsed at the festival: the professional jury, the televoting and the demographic jury.

The highest percentage in the telematic voting went to Tanxugueiras, who obtained 70.75%. Rigoberta 18.08% and Chanel 3.97%. The majority vote was also for Tanxugueiras, with 14.59% compared to 13.88% for Chanel and 13.52% for Rigoberta Bandini. The professional jury awarded 51 points to Chanel, 46 to Rigoberta Bandini and 30 to Tanxugueiras.

Specific, 3 of the 5 members of the jury gave Chanel the highest score, 12 points. Another member awarded it to Rigoberta and another to none of the three favorites. The two members who did not give him the highest score gave him 7 and 8 points.

The corporation, that has already issued a statement to clarify the controversyhas reiterated that at the Benidorm Fest “Spain has triumphed”: “The Benidorm Fest is here to stay. The rules were clear. There are no irregularities or complaints. There are only 13 songs, and anyone could have won,” they insisted from RTVE.

In this sense, have claimed to understand “the emotional hangover”, and they have remarked that the 13 songs were ideal to represent Spain at the festival: “There are no losers”.

Regarding the election of Chanel, RTVE has assured that it has been a “result of an independent jury”; for which they have asked for respect: “They are people with extensive experience and their knowledge is chosen, and we wanted them to vote with absolute freedom”.

As reported by the Corporation, RTVE is already working on the European tour of the winner. “Today the candidate is the number one in the Russian market and she has entered with force in Cyprus and Turkey”, they have exposed.
