The Guayaquil singer settled in Mexico at the end of 2021.
His most faithful followers know that since last year the Guayaquil singer Cecilia Jurado Noboa, better known as Ceci Juno, settled in Mexico in search of new professional adventures, together with her husband the producer Sebastian Barniol.
In that country and since the beginning of 2022, the singer-songwriter shares on her social networks a ritual called Reto 21 Ceci Juno which, he explained on Instagram, is a creative strategy to compose songs using unusual fonts. One of those sources was a peculiar text message that was repeatedly coming to him from Azteca Bank to your new phone number in Mexico.
Apparently, the line had been recycled and the notifications, about a forgotten debt of 179 pesos (almost 9 dollars), were addressed to the previous user, Karen.
Taking this matter as inspiration, Ceci, loyal to her creative routine, She sang to the bank six days ago asking them to please stop calling her, or threaten her, because she is not the debtor, that they better fix the situation or, if not, “she will have to throw the cell phone off the balcony.”
By mentioning the Azteca Bank in his post, the nearly 40-second tune went viral, with mentions in Mexican media and an invitation to the program come the joy from TV Azteca, where Ceci told her story and showcased her talent live for the first time on television.
And, of course, it especially captured the attention of the renowned Mexican businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, president of Salinas Group, to which the Mexican channel and the financial institution belong. Salinas reported the misunderstanding immediately through his account Twitter, something that was not expected, Ceci acknowledged in the Mexican morning. The owner even sent him greetings on that social network before his participation.
Ceci Juno and her two musical passions: singing and music therapy
How did the invitation to participate come about? come the joy?
The invitation came from the group in charge of TV Azteca and Banco Azteca, in response to a video that I uploaded, which in turn is part of the creative challenge that I am doing at the moment. My instruction for the day was to create a composition from the last SMS I received. I have been living in Mexico City for three months and since I have had a cell phone here I have received calls and messages from Banco Azteca looking for a debtor, who is not me. They called very insistently, so it seemed funny to me to compose the song based on that experience.
What feedback have you received from the bank? Is there any proposal?
The bank has been extremely nice to me, not only for being quick to fix the call and text issue; but also because they have received that composition very well and also the rest of my music. I loved that they bothered to listen to the rest of my compositions and appreciate my work. We continue in communication for possible projects that may come out.
Last year you decided to settle in Mexico, can you remind us how this process was?
In the month of October 2021 I went to Mexico City with my husband to continue developing our respective musical careers, me as a singer-songwriter and he as a composer. Fortunately, the process has been an easy transition, we have not had any major problems. We are very close working from here on new individual and joint projects. We are very open and willing to work with other artists.
At the moment what project are you developing in Mexico?
I’m working on the production of my next album, scheduled to be released in the first quarter of this year. With that release also comes other smaller projects, such as video clips and a possible launch event, as well as plans to do concerts if the current situation allows it.
What other opportunities have presented themselves to you in that country?
So far I have been presented with many opportunities to compose, which I love, and to play my music live as well. Only between October, November and December I was lucky enough to have 5 concerts, it was incredible because I was able to play for new audiences in Mexico and meeting other artists with whom collaborations could possibly open later.
What is the creative challenge that you promote on Instagram about?
I started this challenge more than anything to keep composing daily, because I felt that since I finished writing my last album I had stagnated a bit and had lost a bit of agility to continue writing and that creative fluidity that all composers want to feel. The idea was for 21 consecutive days, well, that has not been the case because there have been a couple of days that I have not been able to upload the content, but for 21 days I have created or composed unusual ideas. Not necessarily from a theme I’m composing about, but where I get the idea from, like an SMS or the last series I’ve seen. The idea is to challenge myself in that way to see where I can take my creativity.
As an ally of the importance of mental health, what do you recommend to connect with our creativity? (Ceci is also a music therapist.)
Mental health and creativity are closely related. I say this from first-hand experience, I feel an abysmal difference in times when I am staying creative and in other times when maybe I have fallen too much into a routine, or that I have not had time to do an activity. I always recommend to my students and my patients, as a therapist, that they find an activity that they like, such as making music, painting, dancing, reading and try to do it as often as possible. That they set a schedule during the week, even if it is not every day, but most of the time, to have a creative moment with oneself, to express their ideas and their feelings.
