Produce would suspend the monthly installments of credits for fishermen affected by the oil spill

The Ministry of Production (Produce) plans to suspend the monthly quotas of artisanal fishermen who have credits from the National Fund for Fisheries Development (Fondepes) and who belong to the areas declared in environmental emergency due to the oil spill that occurred last 15 January, announced the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mario Jesús Cavero Polo, in the extraordinary session of the Work Commission of the Congress of the Republic.

“The National Fund for Fisheries Development (Fondepes) is in the process of approving a suspension of payment for four months for the awardees of credits from districts that have been declared in environmental emergency through ministerial resolution No. 021-2022-Minam”, he mentioned. the deputy minister.

“We are going to see how they are not charged for the duration of (the emergency) and we are going to give them the facilities so that they can fulfill their obligations,” he added.

According to the official, so far 201 fishermen who have credits in Fondepes have been identified; 169 of them are located in Chancay, 12 in Ancón, nine in Ventanilla and two in Aucallana.

Along these lines, as part of the actions for small fishermen, Fondepes also stated that they will be provided with a training plan in order to strengthen their capacities so that they can be inserted in other activities during the duration of the environmental emergency.

The workshops will include formalization courses and productive technical courses, their purpose will be for small fishermen to be formalized and access benefits.
