The collaboration of this song arose through WhatsApp voice notes, in which the singer-songwriters sent each other ideas for lyrics, melody and harmony.
A fusion that enriches. The mixture of two artistic proposals that reconnect to a sound that transports the Ecuadorian Andes is part of the gift that Ecuadorian singer-songwriters give their followers Mirella Cesa Y Sara Ontaneda in his most recent production, titled I remember you. The song was written by both artists during the world quarantine of 2020. The feelings represented in this production are nostalgia and longing to meet up with loved ones.
The collaboration of this song arose through WhatsApp voice notes. The singer-songwriters sent each other messages with ideas for lyrics, melody and harmony, and little by little a demo was put together under the production of Ecuadorian Sebastián Ontaneda. Once finished, the song was mastered by Felipe Tichauer (12-time Latin Grammy winner Red Traxx Mastering).
“I think there was always an admiration between the two. We met in 2017, in New York, and from there we have always supported each other. It was in the quarantine of 2020 that we agreed to write a song, without any expectations, simply for the love of making music. The end result of this musical meeting was I remember you”, explains Ontaneda.
Cesa defines the musical theme as the longing for the moments lived and also ensures that this collaboration is the fusion between the world of Ontaneda and Cesa, resulting in a single by indie-folklore with a modern touch.
“It took us almost two years, because it was something we did with a lot of dedication and consideration, from a distance, through voice notes. It was important to talk about our vision with the song and write very heartfelt lyrics. Later we added more sounds, with Sebastián Ontaneda in the production and musician friends who we knew contributed an important sound to the song”, adds the interpreter of experiment, seize Y good boy
Ontaneda argues about I remember you: “It is about the reflections that the 2020 quarantine left us. It was a time when we were away from loved ones and many of us longed for moments where it was easier to meet. It was also a time when some of us lost loved ones. Apart from experiencing losses, many of us also had time for self-reflection and growth, learning to be alone and seeing how we can take advantage of solitude. It was very important for us to make these feelings come through in the lyrics of the song.”
The also winner of the silver seagull at the Viña del Mar festival (2018) indicates: “This song went through a very beautiful process, since we started writing it with my dear @saraontaneda. We put it together with honesty and love, enjoying each stage. It was almost two years cooking over a slow fire to see the light today. (E)
