Barbara Krafftówna is dead. The outstanding theater and film actress was 93 years old

“With great regret and sadness we say goodbye to Barbara Krafftówna, who remained among her friends at the Artists’ House in Skolimów until the last moments, and passed away this night” – reported the Association of Polish Stage Artists.

Krafftówna was known to the general public, among others from “How to be loved” by Wojciech Has, “Nobody’s calling” by Kazimierz Kutz, “Adventures with songs” by Stanisław Bareja, “The Last Action” by Michał Rogalski or the series “Czterej pancerni i pies” by Konrad Nałęcki.

She was also popular with cabaret performances, including the Cabaret of the Elderly Gentlemen. She sang, among others “Curse me”, “Children get bored in the rain”, “Drama in allotments” and “I fell in love on Thursday accidentally”.

She played great roles, but also in student plays

However, it was the theater that was most important to the actress – she played on the most important stages in Poland. Her most important roles include the title roles in “Alice in Wonderland”, “Ivona, the Princess of Burgundy” or “Princess Turandot”, Anastasia in “The Eyes of Brigitte Bardot” or Mrs. Wlberfore in “You Must Kill the Old Lady”.

“There were no strangers to professional contacts with the young generation, with whom she shared her knowledge and experience playing for directing students in their term papers, film etudes, or taking part in meetings-lectures on art. Still hungry and curious about the world and people, she did not shy away from meetings with the public held all over Poland, combined with mini recitals, treating even the smallest audience with due respect “- we read in.

Barbara Krafftówna was awarded the Commander’s Cross (2006) and the Commander’s Cross with the Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2019) for outstanding services for Polish culture, for contributing to the development of theater and film art.

In the 1980s, the actress left for the United States to play the title role in Witkiewicz’s “Mother”. However, she stayed overseas for many years – she continued to play and work with students at the Los Angeles School of Theater, Film and Television. In 1998 she decided to return to Poland.
