This 2022 the country is the Emirate of Sharjah, with an approach to Arab culture.
Spain will be the guest country in 2024 at the International Book Fair (FIL) in Guadalajara (Mexico), the most important meeting in Spanish in the sector, announced today the Minister of Culture and Sports of Spain, Miquel Iceta.
In an appearance in the Senate Culture Commission, Iceta has advanced that Spain will have a special presence at the fair in two years, a role that has been reserved for the Emirate of Sharjah in 2022, with an approach to Arab culture.
The Guadalajara FIL, which combines a publishing business and a cultural festival, received almost 252,000 people in 2021, a drop in audience due to covid, which caused them to close with a deficit, despite the fact that there were more sales than in 2019.

But before reaching this appointment, this same year Spain took over from Canada for, more than three decades later, to once again be the Guest of Honor country at the Frankfurt Book Fair, which Iceta has defined as “a state project that goes beyond the limits of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and extends to all the institutions and entities that promote Spanish culture abroad”.
Frankfurt is the world’s largest trade fair, handling 80% of global copyright contracts in international transactions. (I)
