Oil spill in Ventanilla: Fund of US$ 100,000 to attend environmental emergency

The Peruvian Environmental Fund for Protected Natural Areas (Profonanpe) authorized a financing of US$ 100,000 to address the environmental emergency caused by the oil spill of the Repsol company in order to reinforce the actions that its strategic ally, the National Service of State Protected Areas (Sernanp), has been carrying out.

This financing will be used entirely in contain the effects of the spill, safeguard the marine ecosystem and acquire the necessary equipment in the Fishermen Islets of the National Reserve Systems of Guaneras Islands, Islets and Points and in the Reserved Zone of Ancón.

They also reported that their environmental remediation technical team will be Sernanp’s technical advisor.

For his part, the technical advisor in remediation for Profonanpe’s Environmental Liabilities program, Julio Horna, reported that, together with a team from Sernanp, they carried out a inspection in the beach area from the Pampilla refinery where the oil spill occurred.

Horna indicated that, although the damage is great, it could be greater if quick action is not taken to reduce the impact of contamination on fauna.
