Serrat gives his honest opinion about Rosalía’s flamenco and her contribution to music

When Joan Manuel Serrat speaks, the others listen. She is one of the most influential voices in her profession, due to her career and also because of her talent. Now, the artist has expressed his opinion about Rosalia in an interview with Miguel Poveda on TVE. It was for him Caminos del Flamenco program, which on this occasion made a stop in Barcelona.

Serrat, who announced his retirement from the stage a few days ago, has spoken clearly about what he thinks of Rosalía, just at a time when the Catalan is receiving criticism for her latest work ‘Hentai’.

The singer-songwriter confesses to Miguel Poveda that “Rosalia is an extraordinary artist” and that, in his opinion, is part of those great personalities such as Paco de Lucía, Enrique Morente, Antonio Gades and Camarón that have represented “a giant step” for flamenco. In addition, he feels that Rosalía, contrary to what many flamencos think, does a lot for the genre.

He says it from experience, because for Serrat flamenco has also been part of his musical learning. Thus, the veteran composer emphasizes that Rosalía “is an artist who has moved from a young age in the flamenco world and in which she has deepened since her youth, and from there, she has been taking everything that has been found around her, as a sponge, and he’s built a fantastic character and way of doing things.” “She has a great future because she is very hard-working and very talented,” says Serrat.

Rosalía began her musical studies at the age of 10 and completed them at the Higher School of Music of Catalonia. Winner of a Grammy for her album El mal Querer, Rosalía enjoys a great international projection, although in recent days she has been criticized for her Hentai song.
