TVP blocked a film about a transgender woman? The production has been waiting for the premiere for six years
“Call me Marianna” is a fictionalized by Karolina Bielawska telling the story of a 40-year-old transgender woman. Work on the production started in 2012, that is, as the director emphasizes, even before the “good change”. The film was finished in 2015, but for years TVP did not decide to broadcast it. Meanwhile, it stipulated in the contract that the image could be made available on the VOD platform only after its presentation on television. So time passed.
The film was initially scheduled for the Polish Television in 2019, but the broadcast was eventually canceled “for technical reasons”. In April 2021, the broadcaster assured that the film would be screened in the fall.
– It is sad that a film watched all over the world is unavailable in Poland, because television financed with taxpayers’ money does not provide such a possibility. I tried to contact TVP to find out why the TV premiere was canceled for “technical reasons”. Failed to. Now I do not know who I would talk to, because the people I knew there no longer work – said director Karolina Bielawska in October last year.
