The dean of the Pharmaceutical Chemical College of Peru, Arnaldo Tipiani, urged the Government to regulate the prices of medicines related to the treatment of Covid-19, given the high demand and to avoid speculation by pharmacies.
“Pharmacies and drugstores are regulating by supply and demand, and there is speculation or hoarding. The Government has to take action on the matter by establishing price control policies. The situation warrants it, given that the market is not well regulated and generates this type of overpricing and speculation,” he said in an interview with RPP.
“The State already has to intervene as a regulatory entity. Only in this case of a pandemic, as an exception, are we not saying something different,” Tipiani pointed out.
He also indicated that the State must have the capacity to supply generic drugs in health establishments, through Cenares. “There may have been a deficiency in the supply of medicines in health centers, and that originates demand in the private internal market,” he pointed out.
On the other hand, he called on laboratories, drugstores and pharmacies to agree to establish a self-control mechanism and thus avoid possible speculation on drug prices in the midst of the third wave.
