The Quito artist MAR debuts with her single ‘Boyz Lie’

From the capital comes Mar Cantos, who presents her solo project MAR (@marthebratz), hand in hand with her debut single, titled Boyz Lie, which was published last Wednesday.

Available on digital distribution platforms, this song is produced by Martín Flies (@martinflies) and Damián Segovia (@dami.boi), who together make up the outstanding duo MIEL (@miel.oficial). Without a doubt, this marks a notorious influence on studio work, due to the compatibility of sounds that exist with each other. A clear definition of modern pop, with hints of trap, which of course does not miss the opportunity to flirt with more traditional Latin rhythms, such as son, despite its innovative aesthetic.

The particular voice of MAR manages to distinguish itself from other proposals of current independent Ecuadorian music and is correctly coupled with the lyrical composition of the song, which, mixing English and Spanish, discreetly addresses issues of personal growth in complicated moments in which it is about recovering a lost self-love.

From my perspective, the voice could stand out even more from the final mix of the single, however, this does not detract from the excellent result obtained, which also has an engaging melody and an amalgamated metric.

The concept around the artist tries to return to that exuberant image of popstar from the early 2000s, which more than twenty years later has regained strength, but which tends to diminish due to the impacts of the digital world and social networks; issues that MAR will address in a first record material that will be released in 2022.

In former times, in the world of music and entertainment, the term pop it was used to refer to artists or productions of massive success, which enjoyed popularity. This was changing over the years, until it became a genre with its own identity that is still more relevant than ever, captivating the attention of its followers and detractors.
