Blue Monday is a pseudoscientific term that was introduced in 2004 by a British psychologist associated with Cardiff University. This is what is referred to as the most depressing day of the year. The author of this term, while calculating it, took into account the following factors:
- meteorological (short day and a small number of hours with the sun)
- psychological (awareness that you will not be able to meet the New Year’s resolutions)
- economical (because that was when the payment terms for Christmas loans ended)
Taking them into account, he created a mathematical formula that made it possible to select the most depressive day of the year.
When is Blue Monday? And why is it that particular day?
Blue Monday, the most depressive day of the year, falls on the third Monday of January. In 2022, it will be January 17. Initially, however, it was a different day. It fell on the fourth Monday of January. changed its pattern, motivated by the financial crisis. From then on, the day is designated for the third, not fourth, Monday.

He agreed, and quickly developed a pseudoscientific formula using absurd variables. A dozen or so years after the announcement of Blue Monday, its creator decided that this theory is harmful and must be fought against.
