Ariana DeBose represents Latinos on ‘Saturday Night Live’

The actress once again put herself in the shoes of Anita, her character from “West Side Story”.

Actress, singer and dancer Ariana DeBose premiered this Saturday night on the popular American show Saturday Night Live (SNL), where he once again put himself in the shoes of his Anita, her character in West Side Story, and was proud to represent the Latino and theatrical community.

“It is fantastic to be here representing not only the Latino community as an Afro-Latina, but also the Broadway community,” said the artist in an opening monologue in which she unfolded with self-confidence and, before beginning to sing, she wanted to highlight the transforming power of the theater assuring that her life has changed.

DeBose, 30-year-old Hispanic American, stands out in Hollywood thanks to West Side Story, Steven Spielgerg’s recent film adaptation of the famous 1961 musical, which has already given you the Golden Globe for best supporting actress and the nomination in the same category by the Screen Actors Guild.

The episode began with a medley of songs from the play, including Tonight, I Feel Pretty, Something’s Coming Y America a duet with Kate McKinnon, one of the show’s comediennes, and later joined the rest in sketches, among which she played a press officer for the new New York mayor, Eric Adams.

Throughout the program, which concentrates the largest television audience in the US on Saturday night, a recreated scene from the musical also stood out The Sound of Music in which DeBose sang the theme Do Re Mi full of humorous references to current pop culture, mentioning Homer Simpson or actress Queen Latifah.
