Arrives in Madrid ‘Beginners’, the reflection of two couples on love

‘Beginners’ is a story of love or heartbreak, depending on how you look at it, in which the protagonists are a “beginner” couple and another not so much. Its author is Raymond Carver, the first American to make a representation in our country. “It was difficult to get a full feature out of a nine-page story,” says Mónica Regueiro, an actress.

In the play, two couples, a kitchen and a lot of alcohol to put “the opinions they have about love” on the table, says actress Vicky Luengo. Thus, we openly ask their interpreters: What are you talking about when you talk about love? “Of what we talked about is the fear we have of losing him“, Luengo points out.

The term ‘love’ may sound grandiose, but they confess, it is nothing more than fear of finding it: “We are very concerned about finding love, and when we find it we don’t really know what to do with it“, affirms the actor Javier Gutiérrez.

In this sense, Vicky Luengo emphasizes that “it is better to love each other carefully than to burst each other’s lives” through hurtful words and reproaches as time goes by. “We have become worse beings, a more selfish society, and hopefully this Carver show help us understand what we talk about when we talk about love“, expresses Javier Gutiérrez. The work emphasizes the importance of taking the inside out before there is no going back.
