Andrew Garfield became the influencer in Gia Coppola’s film. Next to him, Maya Hawke

The film was directed by Gia Coppola – the granddaughter of the famous Francis Ford Coppola (“Apocalypse Now”, “The Godfather” trilogy) and the niece of the acclaimed director Sofia Coppola (“Lost in Translation”). Andrew Garfield starred and Maya Hawke accompanies him on the screen.

Frankie works as a bartender at a Hollywood comedy club with her best friend (sometimes lover) Jake. He looks at the people in the club and wonders what is really appreciated by today’s society. When he meets the mysterious Link, he begins to film his anti-commercial statements and post them online. Frankie, Jake and Link, three outsiders, are quickly becoming internet stars. Then the club manager stretches out his hand for profits. Can you make money on anti-commercial? If you do this, who are you? It is supposed to be a story about social media and its disastrous impact on the human psyche. Gia Coppola says about the movie:

I am fascinated by how this new form of communication promotes narcissism and insecurity. Most social media users misrepresent aspects of their lives. These white lies create a massive sense of inadequacy. ‘King of the Internet’ is a warning against the constant brainwashing.

Andrew Garfield recently made a successful comeback to the Spider Man franchise, appearing alongside, among others, Tom Holland in Spider Man: No Way Home, and starring in the musical “tick … tick … BOOM!” For which he won a Golden Globe.

Apart from Garfield, the cast includes: Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”, “Once upon a time … in Hollywood”), Jason Schwartzman (“Grand Budapest Hotel”, “Fargo”), Nat Wolff (“Death Note”) , “The Stars of Our Fault”) and Johnny Knoxville (“Jackass: The Shameless Grandpa”. “Men in Black II”.)
