With this gastronomic surprise, it celebrates the fifth anniversary of the establishment based in La Rioja, an autonomous community on the Iberian Peninsula.
Taste the dishes of a restaurant credited with a star Michelin, without leaving the country, it will be possible very soon, promises the Cuenca chef Carolina Sánchez, whose restaurant Ikaro, based in La Rioja, Spain, will offer its culinary experience very soon in Ecuador.
The news was released a few days ago on the Instagram profile of the chef who is currently recognized as one of the judges of the reality kitchen MasterChef Ecuador (Teleamazonas). “We have set out to take Ikaro from Logroño-Spain to Quito-Ecuador, very soon you will be able to taste the award-winning flavors in a unique culinary experience that takes us to our roots!”, Shared at that moment Sánchez, who is owner of the restaurant along with her brand new husband, the also Spanish chef Iñaki Murua.
Both will recreate the cuisine of Ikaro in Ecuador, from January 21 to 6, in the facilities of an old restaurant with address in Quito, located on Rubio de Arévalo and Genova streets.
“We had previously held this type of event in Ecuador, by way of dinners, in some cities such as Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, a few years ago. We have prepared tasting menus that last a day or two maximum, and what happened is that many people stayed out, so they asked us for more days ”, recalls the chef from Cuenca in a telephone interview with this newspaper.
“We turned this idea around and it occurred to us to celebrate Ikaro’s fifth anniversary and to spend more time in Ecuador, which is very important to us because of all the support we have received from Ecuadorian clients. This is a gift for us and for them ”.
The gastronomic adventure will be as faithful as possible to that of its original headquarters, assures Carolina Sánchez. From the staff that make up Ikaro’s kitchen, which is the same from Spain (eight of the twelve members come) and will accompany the guests, the crockery, the pairing and a surprise selection of the fifteen most representative dishes of the establishment. Yes, surprise, clarifies the cook. “We want people to go without knowing what awaits them … It is a unique menu based on Ecuadorian gastronomy and that of the Basque Country, from La Rioja”, as is the spirit of Ikaro.
“We are very excited to be in Ecuador and cook with Ecuadorian products and also with the occasional Spanish product, which we want people to try … People will be able to realize everything that Ecuador offers, sometimes you think that ‘what from outside is the good thing ‘when we really have wonderful products in Ecuador ”.

Ikaro has been awarded consecutively since 2018 with this international distinction for gastronomic establishments. In fact, the star it holds was renewed again for this 2022, when the fifth anniversary life of the site.
