By the decision of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Jarosław Sellin, the deputy head of the ministry, became the new General Conservator of Monuments.
Sellin holds a PhD in the humanities, in the past he worked as a school and university teacher, and also as a journalist. In 1998, he was a spokesman for the government of Jerzy Buzek, he was also a member of the National Broadcasting Council.

Since 2005, he has been a PiS MP, and since 2015, a secretary of state in the Ministry of Culture.
The previous General Conservator of Monuments was Magdalena Gawin, who resigned. At the beginning of the year, Gawin became the director of the Pilecki Institute.
The institute was established in 2017 and deals with – as we read on the official website – “collecting and sharing documents showing the faces of the 20th century, supporting scientific research” and “disseminating knowledge about the last century”.
In turn, the former director of the Department of Monument Protection of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Katarzyna Zalasińska, became the director of the National Heritage Institute. Established in 2007, the institute issues opinions on the protection and care of monuments.
Janusz Janowski becomes the director of Zachęta
Janusz Janowski became the director of the Warsaw Zachęta. At the end of the year, the term of office of the current director, Hanna Wróblewska, ended.
Janusz Janowski is a painter, theoretician and art historian, curator, jazz musician, doctor of humanities and a member of the Polish Philosophical Society. Since October 2014, he has been the President of the Main Board of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers.
In the past, Janowski was a co-host of “Republika Sztuki” on TV Republika, a program about art “cleansed of ideology”. Artistic circles and trade unions in Zachęta protested against his nomination.
“The first year of Director Janowski’s term of office will be primarily marked by the continuation of the most important program activities and strengthening the institution’s resources. The new director intends to implement the commenced exhibition projects this year. He will also continue long-term investment activities and international projects” – announces the Ministry of Culture.
