Violence against women in Poland
Domestic violence, especially violence against women, is still a serious problem in our country. According to official government data, in 2018 the number of people affected by violence amounted to 224,251 people (including 122,372 women, 36,148 men and 65,731 children).
In March last year, the Sejm hosted the first reading of the bill “Yes to the family, not to gender” by Ordo Iuris and the Christian Social Congress. One of the main assumptions of the project was the denunciation of the Istanbul Convention by Poland, which, according to the authors of the project, is “ideologically marked”. The Istanbul Convention developed by the Council of Europe was ratified by Poland in 2015. Its main goal is to create an appropriate framework to legally counteract violence, in particular that affecting women. The document contains solutions in the field of, inter alia, strategy, prevention, protection and support of victims and prosecution of perpetrators.
