Brooklinn Khoury, a model and skateboarder from Los Angeles, was attacked in early November 2020 by the dog of her cousin, whom she visited. An eight-year-old pit bull named Diesel, whom she had seen many times before, leapt up to her and hung from her upper lip as she bent down to stroke him.

As it turned out later, as a result of the attack, she lost her entire upper lip, as well as a piece of her nose. Despite the quick intervention of the surgeons, they were unable to sew her lips back on.
– The first time I saw my face after surgery, it was scary, but I thought, okay, now it’s time to love this new version of myself. I want people to know that they are not alone when they go through something like this. I’m learning to love myself. I want to inspire as many people as possible, said Khoury, who recently underwent the first of five reconstructive surgeries to rebuild her upper lip.
In a difficult journey, she is supported by her partner Chloe Lukasiak, who helps Khoury accept the new version of herself.
