Art, culture and music are some of the disciplines that were left without their referents; however, their legacy will keep them alive.

January 25

The painter Luis Enrique Tábara Zerna died at the age of 90. The death was due to natural causes. It had more than seven decades of experience.

April 14th

Because of COVID-19 the announcer died Jorge Suarez Moreno, who added 25 years of experience and was the official voice of important brands in the country. In the last radio station that worked it was in La Bruja.

After spending several days in hospital, singer Jesús Fichamba died at the age of 74. Fichamba represented Ecuador in September 1985 at the Festival OTI de la Canción, in Spain, in which he won second place with his traditional interpretation of The Pinta, the Girl and the Santa María, written by Luis Padilla and composed by Gustavo Pacheco, who also directed the orchestra made up of 47 musicians who played live in that iconic presentation.

After fighting a disease, the actor Christian Tyron Andrade He died in Peru, the country where he was based, together with his two children and his wife. The actor worked in productions such as Fate Archives, Limitless, The fan show, Real life, My Enclosure, among other. His best known character was Sanduchito.

The designer Manuel Wolf died suddenly of a heart attack. Wolf promoted fashion in Ecuador not only from clothing, but from the chair, organization of events and more.

August 2

The Cuenca writer and historian Juan Valdano Morejón died at the age of 82. In 2020 Valdano was awarded the Eugenio Espejo Prize, in the category of literary creations, achievements or activities. He had more than 50 years of literary practice.

24th September

After several weeks of poor health, the writer Jorge Velasco Mackenzie died at the age of 72. Among his works are The corner of the righteous, The house of the fabulous, River of shadows, Found in the crack Y The best age to die.

September 26

At the age of 71, the Cañarense writer died Eliécer Cardenas Espinoza, who received several distinctions for his cultural work and publications, including the National House of Ecuadorian Culture Award and the Daily Novel Award The universe.

Eudoxia Estrella, who was considered one of the most important visual artists in the city and co-founder of the Art Biennial, passed away at the age of 96. In Cuenca she was widely known for her cultural contribution and her complete dedication to painting.

Peter Mussfeldt, a pioneer of national graphic design, passed away at the age of 83. Mussfeldt, born in Berlin on February 13, 1938, arrived in Guayaquil in the 1960s and since then has been part of the emergence of the Ecuadorian advertising industry. He served as a professor at the Casa Grande University and was the only Ecuadorian designer included in Taschen’s monumental work on the world history of graphic design. (I)
