Campuzano, a soul and heart Cadiz, died at 79 in his home in Marbella, where he had lived for years. Its legacy will last through compositions that marked generations, from the Pop successes as ‘Driver friend’ (1968), ‘La MiniFalda’ (1971), ‘Achilipú’ or ‘I am loving you madly’ (1974).

Born in 1945 in Cádiz within a family of musicians, Campuzano showed his talent from a young age, forming at the Conservatory of Cádiz and later in Madridwhere he won the prestigious National Carrera Award. During his career, the artist received innumerable distinctions, including the Sagittarius de Oro Prize of the Santa Cecilia Academy of Rome, the Manuel de Falla Award and the first prize at the London Festival.

Campuzano was pioneer in fusing flamenco with pianobeing one of the first musicians to approach this genre without losing its Andalusian essence. Throughout his life, he fought to strip Andalusia of the clichés and stereotypes that, according to him, stripped her of her authenticity, creating pieces dedicated to her beloved cities such as Cádiz, Sevilla and Jaén.

The artist left a musical legacy that covers more than 2,500 registered compositions, which include both popular songs and purely flamenco compositions. His contribution to flamenco was also key on the albums of artists such as Beni de Cádiz and Manolo Sanlúcar, and in the Collaboration with Joan Manuel Serrat and Rocío Jurado In the 80s and 90s. In his last stage, he dedicated himself to creating projects that exceeded the limits of flamenco, such as his album dedicated to the Juan Sebastián Elcano school ship, entitled Music and poems for the sea.

His influence and creativity transcended time, and his figure will be remembered not only by his popular compositions, but for his ability to reinvent flamenco and the piano in an amalgam of genres and styles. With him he leaves one of the great geniuses of Spanish music, but his music will endure as a testimony of his talent and unconditional love for his homeland.
