87-year-old Jane Fonda has been not only a recognized and legendary actress, but also an icon of the struggle for civil rights for years. From the American war in Vietnam, she strongly opposed the actions of subsequent American authorities if they broke human rights and constitution. If someone thought that by receiving the Sag Award Award he would not take the opportunity and criticize what Donald Trump and his subordinates are doing, he was wrong. The actress appealed to colleagues gathered in the room in the hall in front of TVs.
Jane Fonda about the American fight with “Woke” and “Dei”
One of Donald Trump’s election slogans was the fight against the so -called “Dei” and “Woke” – opposition to “diversity, equality and inclusiveness” and “Woke culture” preventing exclusion, inequalities and discrimination in society. In Donald Trump’s mouth, both terms are obviously negative – he sees them threats to this part of society, which is most represented by: white, rich men. The crusade against “Woke” and “Dei” has so far affected, among others teens from the LGBT communitywomen and the African -American part of employees in higher positions (their competences are undermined due to, for example, parity or preferred access to universities, which was to equalize the chances of black people after racial segregation). Receiving the distinction for the achievements of Jane Fonda’s life, she raised these issues from the stage, but never once mentioned the president’s name.
Practicing empathy is not a weakness or “around”. “Woke” means that you care about other people. And so many of them will suffer through what is happening and what is coming. We will need a big tent to resist it! – she said, referring to tents that protesters, e.g. by the buildings of the authorities, set up. – Stretch your hand to those who are under a different political influence – we must refer to their empathy, not judge, but listen to our hearts, invite them to our resistance tent.
We are at our historical moment. This is happening now, this is not a test! – She called from the stage to cheering crowds. – It means so much to me. Thank you, Gildio! Your enthusiasm makes me feel less a feeling of life, and more like a desire to kick my ass. And that’s good because I haven’t finished yet !!
We must look for opportunities to inspire others. There will still be love in the world. It will still be beauty. And the whole ocean of the truth in which you can swim.
Jane Fonda, as one of the public figures, openly supported the candidacy of Kamali Harris in the past presidential election. She became involved in her campaign not only by calling on social media, which is limited to most stars, but also walking personally from door to door, urging citizens to vote for the candidate she supported.
