In Plaza de la Fuente the exhibition ‘Without wanting wanting’ is presented

Diana Bártolo de Altgelt defines herself as a self-taught woman who likes to paint; It was in this art that he found refuge during the pandemic.

Until January 9, 2022 Diana Bártolo of Altgelt exhibits in the cultural space Fountain Square his recent collection called Wanting without wanting, which brings together a total of 126 paintings. It is a group of works that were born during the pandemic, since 2020, at which time the artist met again with painting and used it as a tool to cope with the confinement and the challenges that were experienced during these years.

“Mine was an expression of the day to day, where I played with leisure and fantasy to make the confinement more bearable”, expresses Bártolo. “Emotionally it helped me so much,” he adds.

It was in the kitchen that he found his first source of inspiration. “I dedicated myself to painting still lifes and any other figure related to food, since cooking is another of my weaknesses”, dice.

Over time, she found motivation in other things that led her to explore new topics. “I spent four to five hours a day painting. I started with watercolor and then I mixed this technique with acrylic, colored pencils, pen, crayons and, finally, I used other elements that spontaneously resulted in a collage ”, Bártolo reviews, who defines herself as a self-taught woman. “I do not consider myself an accomplished painter, I am just a woman who likes to paint”, he points out.

It clarifies, at the same time, that it is not outlined by any style. “I do not have a personal style that pigeonholes me …”.

“In 2021 I stopped painting and took up this job ‘unintentionally’ after a few months, until I realized that I had more than a hundred paintings, despite the fact that I had already sold around forty. That was how I decided to do this exhibition ”, The woman from Guayaquil refers, who dedicated five hours a day to creating the paintings.

She confesses to being happy with having made her first exhibition come true. “I loved that despite the pandemic, despite the traffic at this time, many people attended the inauguration, I saw many friends”, holds.

However, he does not promise to resume painting very soon, and if he does, he would like to do it with oil and watercolor, as basic techniques.

The exhibition takes place in the cultural space located inside Plaza Lagos. Admission is free, presenting the vaccination card. Visiting hours are from Monday to Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. On weekends, from 11:00 to 20:00.
