Latin American views gather at the Naranjal International Student Film Festival

The meeting brings together a total of 30 short films from 15 universities in Cuba, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, the United States and Ecuador.

A diversity of views of film students in Latin America come together in the first Naranjal International Student Film Festival, that takes place until tomorrow Thursday in face-to-face and virtual format. “In this first edition we show the variety of these views with high quality short films in fiction, documentary and experimental genres, which account for the learning processes and concerns of the new generations of Latin American filmmakers”, describe the organization in your press release.

The meeting brings together a total of 30 short films from 15 universities, including the Universidad de la Sabana (Colombia), Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina), Universidad de Columbia (United States), Universidad del Desarrollo (Chile), EICTV San Antonio de los Baños (Cuba), Incine, San Francisco de Quito University, Guayaquil Catholic University, Espol, Arts University, Cuenca University.

This is how the festival presents audiovisuals of comedy, fantasy, horror, environment and local traditions.

“Programming this festival has been an exciting task, knowing the great level and diversity of proposals that students make as part of their learning is also a window into what will be the Ecuadorian cinema of the future, and it is surprising”, manifests Ileana Matamoros, festival programming director.

The films are divided into two groups: Official Selection and Panorama. This last section includes short films by Ecuadorian directors made during their university process, such as Orange alert (1999), from Gabriela Calvache, Y Pia (2004), from Javier Andrade (both available virtually).

The films are streamed from the website of the Municipality of the Naranjal canton www.festivaldecine.naranjal.gob.ec and its face-to-face functions are at the Plaza Naranjal Cinema, at 10:00. Thus, for this Thursday the following short films will be screened: They have to remind me, Gabriela Borbor (University of the Arts); Calle 16b, from Isabella Palacio (University of Antioquia); Comedead, by Paulo Orellana (University of Cuenca); Katary, by Esteban Vera (Incine); Saturation, by John Núñez (Espol).

Some short films on the billboard online they will continue to be available on the website until this weekend.

“We are already thinking about our second edition, and we announce that we are going to reward films made by film students in our province and in Naranjal.
