Little who knows this Warsaw lake. Wild banks and predatory rooms create an unusual ecosystem

There is a place in Warsaw where you will not meet the backs, and nature invites you to real rest – Lake Torfy. Fish in the tank, wild rooms and the peace of the forest make it the exit of the capital. It is an ideal choice for a quick escape from the urban rogue.

Lake Torfy is a hidden pearl of Warsaw Wawra, hidden among the forests of the Mazowiecki Landscape Park. It lies in the Aleksandrów estate, right next to the southern bypass of Warsaw, and you can get here with both public transport and by car. It is an ideal place for an effective reset among nature, without the need to plan a long trip. What makes the lake stand out from the others? Discover its unusual, wild ecosystem and meet plants that can … hunt.

Fish, grass snake and sundews. The tank impresses with the diversity of nature

Lake Torfy is an artificial reservoir that was born in the place of the former peat excavation. Although it was created from man’s interference, nature quickly took control of him and changed this corner into a small, wild paradise. Peat bogs that surround the lake have created a specific microclimate, conducive to unique fauna and flora, which you will not find in typical Warsaw water reservoirs. Its edges are covered with dense rushes, among which are herons and other, difficult to spot birds. It is also the kingdom of fish, amphibians and reptiles. The grass snakes heat up in the glades, and the water is heard from time to time. In the spring, it is wrapped in woolen white, which gives the area an almost fairy -tale look. However, the greatest peculiarity of Lake Torfy are its carnivorous plants.

This is one of the few places in the capital where you can meet a round -leaved sundew, a real predator in the world of flora. It has developed a unique mechanism – on its leaves there are sticky drops resembling dew, which lure insects. As soon as the sacrifice sticks to them, the sundew slowly begins to close the leaf, digging his. Thanks to this, it can survive in poor, peat soils, where other plants would not have a chance to grow. Peat bogs and the specific ecosystem of Lake Torfy make nature still wild and not used. This is a real treat for naturalists, anglers and anyone who dreams of a moment of respite in the environment of an unusual, almost primary nature. And all just a few dozen minutes from the center of Warsaw.

What is the lake in Warsaw? Peat is not the only tank in the city

Warsaw hides many places where nature still dominates. The Czerniakowskie Lake tempts the city beach and attracts bath amateurs in the summer. The peat reserve in Karczew is a treat for lovers of wild nature. A walk among marsh forests resembles a trip to the original forest. Silence and quiet are also offered by the Morysin reserve on Lake Wilanowskie, surrounded by age -old oaks and ruins of the former palace. Raszyn ponds are great for long walks, which at any time of the year delight with the changing landscape and are a refuge of water birds. However, in the Zawadowskie Islands reserve, wild beaches, sandy rags and picturesque Wisła bends are waiting, where you can feel like a remote area without crossing the borders of the city.
