Movies about Harry Potter could look completely different. The conversation with the sister changed everything

Ralph Fiennes as a Voldemort in a series of films about the adventures of Harry Potter is one of those castings that are difficult to imagine in a different form. The actor, however, was not convinced at all. It was only the conversation with the sister that changed his approach and allowed her to look at this character in a different way.

For Daniel Radcliffe, Emmy Watson and Rupert Grint Role in a series of films about became passes to fame. However, many actors also played in the productions who did not have to prove anything or fight for their position in the world of film. On the contrary – they could choose and change in roles. Years later he admitted that He was very skeptical when he was offered to play Lord Voldemort.

Ralph Fiennes did not want to play Voldemort in “Harry Potter”

Lord Voldemnort in human form appears for the first time only in the fourth part of the book by JK Rowling. Both the literary original and the films created in the following years enjoyed (and are still enjoying) enormous popularity among children and young adults. When work began on the screening of the fourth novel in the series, Harry Potter was already a giant brand and a real world madness. Despite this, Ralph Fiennes was not delighted with the role he proposed.

The director himself saw him as Voldemort. Years later, Fiennes in an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter” told him how he reacted when he heard the proposal.

In truth, I was an ignorant when it comes to these films and books. I didn’t see movies and did not read books. I was aware that they had been a great success. I think I was rejected by the poorly understood snobbery, goblins and all these things. Mike Newell saw me in his film, the first in which Voldemort’s physical figure can be seen. I was an ignorant, I thought it wasn’t for me. I leaned quite stupidly, I hesitated.

Only my sister Martha changed my opinion – she has three children who were 12, 10 and 8 years old at the time. She said: “Well, what?! You have to do it! Voldemort, want you to play Voldemort?! Ralph, you probably don’t realize!” Sister’s reaction cited the actor’s reaction.

Finally, Ralph Fiennes listened to his sister. He played Voldemort until the last part of the film and today it is difficult to imagine someone else in this role.

Sister Ralph Fiennes not only got involved in changing his opinion about the character of Lord Voldemort. A few years later, she convinced the production that one of her children would perfectly match … the same role. Son of Martha Fiennes, Hero, played the role of young Tom Riddle in “Harry Potter and Prince of Half -Blood”. Director David Yates later argued in the media that family connections did not affect the casting. In his opinion, the nine -year -old Hero was able to bring out a hidden darkness in his affairs, characteristic of Voldemort, played by his uncle. He did not hide, however, that it was also important to him that Hero and Ralph were hard to refuse. We invite you to participate in the poll and commenting.
