Liv Tyler joined the acting team of filming “Lord of the Rings” as one of the last. She also took part in the work on creating her character. Initially, he was inclined to show Arwen Wo a wider dimension than JRR Tolkien did. The princess’s elf was to grab the sword and go into battle. As planned, so was done.
Liv Tyler in the “Lord of the Rings” shot many more scenes than shown in the film
“Brave princess” – this is how Arwen was to be seen after the second part of the trilogy. In “two towers” for Liv Tyler there are many more scenes, including a lot of demanding considerable physical fitness and completely new skills. The actress-Modelka was to be a counterweight to the less ethereal Miranda Otto in the role of Eovina, but equally brave and ruthless in battle. Tyler was preparing for combat scenes for several weeks, practicing horse riding and a sword fight. Her Arwen finally came with a group of elves to the Helm Jar, where the princess took part in the horse -drawn charge on the plowing, Aragorn and Gimleg’s attack in front of the gates of the stronghold and in the evacuation to the fortress. It quickly turned out that LIV Tyler copes with these scenes … on average.
No matter what I did, it looked weak – she cites her words Ian Nathan in her book.
I spent a lot of time in New Zealand, preparing for scenes with a fight. I trained all these shapely movements. And the more I did it, the more we moved away from what was true at Arwen. We were all aware of this. Therefore, it was decided to return to books and accessories, reformulate it. I think that at first Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens wanted her to be a strong heroine. She is strong, but it had to be shown somehow in the movie. They probably thought: “If she is a warrior, she will be strong.” But after a while we realized that a woman did not have to have a sword in her hand to have strength. Her strength is her will and love for man – she said years ago in an interview with ING.
Among the memories of numerous extras who “survived the Helmowy Jar” (the photos were shot at night in merciless conditions – in the rain, mud and cold), there were more blunt comments: “Peter Jackson could no longer bear her inept acting”, he was to say “a friend of a friend “From the acting team. How much truth is – it is not known. Peter Jackson, however, ordered to delete all the scenes with Tyler’s participation in the quarries that were pretended to be a helm jar – Several hours of material went to the basket. Many scenes were rubbed manually in post -production, but not everything was done in 100 percent. Still on the older versions of the film on the DVD you can see the disappearing shadow, belonging to Arwen, and the watchful eye can spot her when evacuated to the fortress. These deficiencies were improved in the latest versions of the film, digitally modified.
Ultimately, it was decided to find a completely different style and character for her character. The princess’s elf became again what Jrr Tolkien created her, which turned out to be a very good change for the actress.
As soon as we decided that we were throwing the whole fight and focus on love history, I immediately felt that it was. For some reason I felt better with it, it was closer to my understanding of this character. It was a long process – said Liv Tyler.
Together with the fighting Arwen from the second part of the film, love scenes between her and Aragorn in caves at Helmowy Jar were also cut off. It was also decided to abandon (to some extent) quite crazy plans with a love triangle with Eovina. Formally, Peter Jackson translated all changes with the need to shorten the already spilled fabric. However, these scenes did not even go to the director’s version of the film and only a few photos from the plan or short working recordings remained.
