Public media financed from the state budget are obliged to fulfill a mission that assumes offering various programs and information. They are to ensure pluralism, impartiality and balance, i.e. broadly understood independence of the message. The National Broadcasting Council checked whether public broadcasters met these requirements in the fourth quarter of 2024.
KRRiT inspected public broadcasters. There is a report
The institution looked at, among others, how the time devoted to representatives of a given party spread in public media. Pursuant to the regulation, the standard of time devoted to presenting political party positions should be not less than 180 minutes each month. The KRRiT report shows that the Łódź Radio did not comply with the recordwhich in November 2024 devoted too little time to political party positions – 171 minutes and 15 seconds.
In addition, the regulation states that the standard of time presenting trade union positions and employers’ unions in public radio and television programs should be not less than 30 minutes. According to the Virtual Media portal, All public broadcasters subjected to KRRIT followed this task. It was different when the principle of pluralism was observed.
Several troops of Polish Radio did not follow the principles of pluralism on the air
The National Broadcasting Council has examined, among others, the number of political parties that served public media studies. In the period that was analyzed, all public stations hosted at least three political parties on the air. However, the principles of pluralism failed to keep public media five times when it comes to presenting trade union positions and employers’ unions.
In October, the duties did not fulfill Radio Opole, in November Radio Koszalin, Radio Łódź and Radio Rzeszów, in December Radio Koszalin again. According to the KRRiT report, only two representatives of trade unions and employers’ unions in the indicated months hosted the given stations. Other branches of Polish Radio hosted representatives of at least three trade unions and employers’ unions. We invite you to participate in the poll and commenting.
