As it turns out, crops in South America are one of the main factors for the loss of biodiversity. Degradation of soil is also no less important. Monoculture sterilizes the Earth, and the intensive use of pesticides poisons the ecosystem. Pollution flowing into rivers threaten both aquatic organisms and local communities.

Added to this is a high carbon trail. Avocado covers thousands of kilometers before it hits European tables, and its transport generates huge carbon dioxide emissions. On a global scale, the impact on the climate is much greater than you might think. As a result, avocado, although valued for nutritional values, becomes an ecological burden. However, that’s not all. In some regions, avocado production is associated with the activities of organized criminal groups, which leads to social conflicts and violence.
