Millions of funding for public media from the state budget
Throughout 2024, public media received a total of from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage around PLN 2.3 billion. The vast majority (80 percent) of this amount were transferred to Polish Television (PLN 1.9 billion). The sums seem huge, but they are lower than those that public media collected from the state budget in earlier years.
In previous years, institutions could count on over PLN 600 million from the RTV subscription and compensation of up to PLN 2.7 billion for lost subscription revenues. The financial situation of public media changed drastically after Andrzej Duda vetoed the OKOBUDZETA law and thus blocked further payments.
In January 2024, the National Broadcasting Council froze the said funds, and then transferred them to court deposits. The money was successively received only by the stations in which the court procedure ended.
The situation changed in October. The regulator in connection with floods began to pay money to all companies. Recently, KRRiT adopted resolutions that correct public media program and financial plans for 2025. Thanks to this, institutions will receive subscription funds.
