25 titles fought, but the Polish book of the 25th anniversary could be only one

40 journalists and journalists selected the 25 best – in their opinion – the prince of the last century. Later they gave their fate in the hand of the readers of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, and they chose this one: the best Polish book of the 25th anniversary.

The nominated items included The book “Neighbors. The history of the extermination of the Jewish town” of Jan Tomasz Gross about the pogrom of a thousand six hundred Jews from Jedwabne, murdered on July 10, 1941, but also published four years after her “We from the Jedwabne” Anna Bikont, which has been causing for 25 years. Among the nominated titles there was a place for historical studies on peasants and peasants who are very well read (Joanna Kuciel-Frydryszak, “Peasants. The story of our grandmothers”, Adam Leszczyński, “People’s History of Poland. History of exploitation and resistance”), he will say Pentecost (including the successfully screened “blinding from the lights” by Jakub Żulczyk, and even a book written (and drawn) primarily for children – the international bestseller “Maps” by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizieliński. Only one author managed to catch the list with two booksand it was one of them who won the title of the 25th anniversary book.

25 nominated books, but there could only be one book

Among the nominated titles were: “Bieguni” from 2007 and “Books of Jakub or a great journey through seven borders …” from 2014 Olga Tokarczuk. And these are “Jakub books” readers of “Gazeta Wyborcza”. – That’s it An unusual book, which is almost one thousand pages. I think that Olga should get a doctorate in history for writing it, because she worked on it for seven years. Maybe it should be mandatory reading? Although probably a bit too fat for children – journalist Monika Olejnik said about her, who was among the nominators. It was also indicated by, among others Justyna Sobolewska (“Polityka”) and Katarzyna Czajka-Kominiarczuk, “Pop cultural animal”.
