The Balearic Islands Department of Natural Environment has reported that it has opened preliminary investigations to determine whether the filming of the latest music video by American singer Katy Perry has committed an infringementas they do not have permission to film in the natural setting of the islet of s’Espalmador in Formentera. This islet is part of the Ses Salines Natural Park in Ibiza and Formentera and, in a statement, the Ministry clarified on Tuesday that the producer of this recording “in no case” did he request authorizationn necessary to carry out this filming.

The American star has filmed his latest music video, ‘Lifetimes’, on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, with scenes in which he appears dancing and jumping in different locations, such as urban areas, a busy nightclub and in natural settings, such as the interior of the s’Espalmador dune system, within an area delimited by sticks and ropes indicating that entry is prohibited, where all his recording equipment would also have been.

The Ministry has also clarified that it would not be a crime against the environment, but rather an infraction, since the environmental authority may give permission for the filming of photo reports or videosSpecifically, Article 65 of the Natural Resources Management Plan (PORN) states that filming requires express authorization from the department responsible for environmental matters, without prejudice to those granted by other organizations or institutions.

Next to the famous ses Illetes beach in Formentera, the dunes of s’Espalmador make up the best preserved dune system in the Balearic Islands and has a “great ecological value”indicates the Balearic Government on its tourist website https://www.illesbalears.travel/es. S’Espalmador is a private islet located north of the island of Formentera and has been part of the Ses Salines de Ibiza and Formentera Natural Park since 1980. It is approximately 2.9 kilometres long and 800 metres wide (137 hectares).

Katy Perry is not the only American star who has taken advantage of his stay in Ibiza and Formentera to work. Actor Will Smith has chosen the recording studio of a luxury hotel in the north of Ibiza to record his latest song. Smith has shared a reel on the social network Instagram entitled ‘Ibiza sunset vibes’ where he appears rapping and singing part of his song, with images of the sunset from Ibiza and accompanied by friends.
