The well-known American comedians Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney have given up on hosting the upcoming awards ceremony Oscarwhich will be held on March 2, “Variety” reported on Tuesday.
Kimmel, a four-time Oscar host, including the last two, turned down the offer earlier this summer. Mulaney, who was a guest at the last ceremony for the coveted film awards and also hosted the Governors Awards, “has a busy schedule with several projects ahead,” said the specialized media.
Kimmel is currently the fourth host with more appearances at the Oscar galas, along with Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. All of them have done it four times. Next in line is Johnny Carson, who has hosted five, actor Billy Crystal, with nine, and Bob Hope, who has hosted 19.
Host of the Governors Awards in January and presenter at the 96th Academy Awards, Mulaney had become one of the favorites among the awards fans to take over, says “Variety”.
In an interview with this newspaper last June, Bill Kramerchief executive of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, praised Kimmel and welcomed the possibility of Mulaney joining the broadcast.
“We’re lucky to have Jimmy (Kimmel), who helped create one of the best Oscars last year. John Mulaney did an incredible job as well. All I will say is that whoever hosts the show going forward, we want to continue this tone of celebration, respect, humor and a great love of cinema. We have great options,” Kramer said in that interview.
