“19.30” pays for the mistakes of “Wiadomości”. Once again, before the main edition of the TVP news program, it was necessary to publish an apology to people who were exposed to materials during the times of the previous authorities of Telewizja Polska. This time, the apology was received not just by anyone, but by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
TVP apologizes to Donald Tusk for “fur Deutschland”
During the times of Jacek Kurski and his successor, Polish Television in “Wiadomości” and on TVP Info repeatedly showed recordings of Donald Tusk tinged with a red tint, as well as those in which the politician uttered the famous words “fur Deutschland”. During the election campaigns, these recordings appeared on public media practically every week of the political struggle. Among other things, for this, as well as for other situations that went beyond the norm of objectively conveying information, TVP had to apologize to Donald Tusk in accordance with the court’s verdict. On Sunday, just before the program “19.30”, a banner appeared on viewers’ screens with the following content:
Telewizja Polska SA in liquidation:
1) apologizes for repeatedly presenting in the years 2021-2023 in the “Wiadomości” broadcast the image of Mr. Donald Tusk in a red glow with a crosshair aimed at his chest,
2) apologizes for repeatedly publishing out of context a fragment of Mr. Donald Tusk’s speech containing the words “fur Deutschland” (for Germany),
3) apologizes for repeatedly broadcasting in 2022 a film insinuating that Mr. Donald Tusk supported Vladimir Putin’s policies in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine,
4) apologizes for the false suggestions published in the issue of “Wiadomości” on October 19 and 20, 2022 that Mr. Donald Tusk accepted a financial benefit from Russians in the amount of EUR 600,000.
This statement was published in connection with the court proceedings initiated by Mr. Donald Tusk in 2022 – it was written on a clear board.
“Fur Deutschland” has been the unofficial anthem of “Wiadomości” and TVP Info since 2021. Public media have repeatedly broadcast Donald Tusk’s statement taken out of context and cut out. The recording appeared in virtually every “Wiadomości” material that referred to any aspect of the Civic Platform’s rule from years ago, or informed about the then opposition’s plans for Poland. A fragment of Tusk’s speech was given during a meeting with delegates of the German Christian Democratic Union – Donald Tusk spoke at the time about the standards of public life, which, according to him, the then CDU was to be a model for:
We owe it to you to the greatest extent that we have not lost freedom, honesty, transparency, truth and reason in the fight against authoritarian tendencies, corruption, lies and populism. Your rule was a blessing not only for Germany, but for the whole of Europe, for your eastern neighbors – as a Pole I know what I am talking about – for the Balkan countries and their dreams of Europe and for Ukrainians.
Although in 2022 Jarosław Olechowski, former head of the Television Information Agency, claimed that the shot with Donald Tusk and the “sight” was “untrue”, it was published in “Wiadomości” and TVP Info at least 30 times.
