The end of “screening”? Tourists will get a punch in the pocket. They go around handing out tickets like they were thrown out of thin air

The Baltic beaches are famous for their warm sand, beautiful dunes and fabric fences that occupy almost every free space. You could say that “screening” has become a national sport of the Poles, but are beach screens legal? Ignorance can cost you dearly.

The sea is a holiday destination for many Poles. The scorching heat encourages sunbathing and swimming in cool water, which is why you can see huge crowds on the beaches. To find a place to spread out a towel, you have to go through a real labyrinth made up of hundreds of screens. However, not everyone knows that you can get a ticket for blocking yourself.

Are beach screens legal? Not everywhere is it allowed

Each has its own regulations and when entering it, we are obliged to comply with them. Few people take the time to read them from cover to cover, which is why we are often exposed to fines. It turns out that some local authorities constantly come up with new regulations, which can change every season. Do they have the right to do so? Yes. This is regulated by Article 54 of the Code of Petty Offences, which reads as follows:

Whoever violates the order regulations issued on the basis of the Act regarding conduct in public places shall be subject to a fine of up to PLN 500 or a reprimand.

What does this mean for the average Joe? Local authorities can change the regulations at any time and limit or completely prohibit the construction of blanket fortresses. If we do not notice the new regulation and as usual, we spread a screen on the beach, Such behavior may result in a fine of 500 PLN.

What can you get a ticket for on the beach? We will pay not only for an illegal beach screen

Most people on the beach are aware of the various restrictions that result from being in a public place. However, we often ignore the regulations because their violations are rarely enforced by the appropriate services. Despite this, it is important to be aware of the fines that threaten us for various offenses.

  • Illegal bonfire. It is forbidden to light a fire on the beach. If we do it without the permission of the office, we can get a 500 PLN fine. In a situation where the fire is treated as a high fire hazard, the case can go to court. The fine then increases to 5,000 PLN.
  • Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. On most beaches, outside designated areas, such as bars or beer gardens, there is a ban on using intoxicants. The services may impose a fine of PLN 500.
  • Entering the breakwaters may result in a fine of PLN 200. Unfortunately, this situation is quite common, as many people take pictures of themselves on them.
  • Ignoring lifeguard’s instructions is unacceptable behavior. For this act we can be asked to leave the bathing area and punished with a fine of PLN 500.
