Sowing carrots in July is nothing new. Some people decide to do it to fill the space in the garden after vegetables they have already harvested. The soil is still well-nourished, so why not use its properties to the fullest? How to go about it?
Sowing carrots in July. The variety is important!
If we want to sow carrots in July, let’s not delay. The sooner we start, the better. Many farmers say the first half of July, but we can often count on an autumn harvest of carrots if we sow them in the second half – that’s what my mother-in-law told me. However, it’s worth knowing how to go about it all. An important issue is choosing the right variety with a short vegetation period (90-110 days). Farmers recommend, for example, Amsterdam, Speedo or First Harvest.
Carrots are sown directly into the ground, as they do not like transplanting. Seeds are placed in beds at a depth of 1 cm, which will make it easier and faster to grow, at a distance of about 30 cm from each other. In favorable conditions, carrots will sprout after a week. What are these favorable conditions? July in Poland is usually hot, so it is important to ensure regular watering of carrot beds.

What can you sow in July?
Carrots are not the only crops that can be sown in July. Vegetables that are worth filling the already bare beds include: beets, beans, broad beans, broccoli, radishes, chives, parsley, and onions. The latter is really worth trying and placing near the carrots. These vegetables grow well together, so such proximity increases the chance that in October or November we will be able to enjoy a second round of harvest.
