Because of black spot my mother-in-law had to get rid of her roses. I use this spray and the disease bypasses the garden

Rose black spot is considered the most dangerous flower disease. Leaves gradually turn yellow, fall off and black dots appear on them. It is much easier to prevent than to fight, so try a homemade spray.

The rose is called the queen for a reason. It looks beautiful, smells wonderful and is a favorite of many people. Unfortunately, it is also favored by diseases and pests. The most common of them is black spot. First, it devours the oldest leaves, i.e. those at the base of the bush. Then, single, irregular spots appear, which over time merge with each other.

Black Spots on Rose Leaves. They Appear Because of Four Things

Rose black spot is caused by a fungus. It thrives in a warm environment and likes moisture. Favorable temperatures for it are between 15°C and 27°C. Several things contribute to the formation of dark marks:

  • Prolonged rainy weather,
  • Improper watering from above the leaves,
  • Planting too densely,
  • Lack of nutrients in the soil.

As a result, it does not produce new shoots and does not bloom. The disease spreads with water droplets. It moves from one rose to another during watering or during rain. The spots are actually dead leaf tissue. They can be black, brown or gray.

The fight against the fungus must be started immediately after observing the first symptoms. It can spread very quickly to other plants. First of all, cut out heavily infected shoots, rake up fallen leaves and water the bush so as not to wet its leaves. Then prepare a home spray.

  1. Pour a liter of water into the bowl,
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda,
  3. Mix thoroughly and set aside for an hour,
  4. Pour into a spray bottle and spray on flowers.

The mycelium coating will darken significantly the day after spraying. This treatment should be carried out every other day for two weeks. If the disease has not affected your flowers and you simply want to protect them, spraying once a week will be enough.

TIP! After the whole process, clean your tools thoroughly. You should disinfect the pruners you used to cut the roses. Fungal spores can survive on them for up to another month.
