The waiter seats the guests, they place their orders, the chefs prepare the dishes, the guests eat their meals, pay and leave. This is what a standard restaurant visit looks like. Everyone is happy: both the guests and the staff. It gets worse when certain inconveniences occur. Some solve problems peacefully, others throw glasses and bring the waitresses to tears.
Restaurant owner on customers: “They’ve become nervous, demanding”
A visit to a restaurant doesn’t always go the way we’d like it to. Sometimes you have to wait a while for a table. Sometimes, when you’re seated, you have to be patient because the waitress has a few more tables to serve. Sometimes, the food itself doesn’t taste right to you or someone mixes up your orders. These situations aren’t the most pleasant, especially when your stomach is growling.
Some people answer waiters with a smile that everything is fine, and then write a sarcastic opinion about the restaurant on the Internet. Instead, it is definitely better to openly express your comments, so that the quality of service can be improved. However, it is worth expressing them with class and respect for waiters and chefs. Unfortunately, this is not the case with a certain type of customer. – Most of our guests are really great, they leave us full and satisfied, and when something is not right, they come and talk to us, but there is a small group of customers who cannot be satisfied – said Jędrzej Lewandowski, owner of the “Zielona Górka” pizzeria, in an interview with WP.
I see that something bad is happening to people, they have become nervous and demanding. […] They can get angry because they had to wait a while for a table, and then they say: ‘We waited too long, now you can give us a liter of wine for free’
– said Lewandowski, and added: – You need to have a lot of patience, especially since we always warn you: “We have 200 pizzas to serve before you. Do you still want to wait?” They answer that they do, but they quickly start to get impatient and explode. Well, I would really like to spoon the pizza from a large pot onto plates, but unfortunately it is not possible. Our work is an art. And a pizza “flies out” from our kitchen on average every minute.

Yelling, stealing and leaving without paying. This is how customers “punish” the staff
Although many visits to pubs can be described as positive, unpleasant situations occur on a daily basis. It is not always the fault of the staff, and even if it is, nothing justifies openly taking it out on the waiters. There are also cases of shouting, insults, and even theft of cutlery, deliberate destruction of tableware, and even leaving the premises without paying.
We had a situation like this recently. Guests, four adults, ate and left the restaurant as if nothing had happened. One of the waitresses realized that they hadn’t paid the bill and ran after them. She told them that they had forgotten to pay, and in response she heard that they hadn’t forgotten at all, but the bill was too high for them, they didn’t like the food and they felt bad with us.
– revealed Agnieszka, the owner of the venue from Gdańsk. – The waitress was at a loss. She didn’t know what to do, especially since these guests had been sitting with us for two hours, had eaten everything and it was obvious to the naked eye that they had a great time.
It turns out that this problem often affects smaller and cheaper establishments, focused on serving larger numbers of guests. Restaurateur Renata Kamienik talked about it in an interview with Next (we encourage you to watch the game at the top of the article). – In more widely available establishments, this customer is more demanding. This results from the fact that they have a limited budget. Of course, we also meet guests who are well-off and do not necessarily know how to behave, but this is a matter of manners. These are things that should be distinguished.
