For years I have been adding it to jams instead of sugar. They are just as delicious, but less caloric.

You know what can be a great substitute for sugar in jam? Our editorial colleague’s mother has been using this method successfully for years. The preserves come out just as sweet, but are healthier and have far fewer calories.

Fruit and vegetable preserves are a great way to enjoy them not only in the summer. And who doesn’t like pancakes with homemade fruit jam? Popular jam recipes call for a lot of sugar. Can you replace it with something to make it healthy and dietetic? Yes! Just use a substitute, which is available in almost every larger supermarket.

How to make jam without white sugar? This is its perfect substitute

The mother of one of our editorial colleagues has been using erythritol, a sweetener that successfully replaces white sugar, to make jams for a long time.. Not only does it dissolve easily in liquids, cook well, but it is also suitable for baking. Thanks to this, you can maintain a sweet taste in your diet, but the dishes will have much fewer calories. For people on a diet, it is an ideal solution.

In classic jam recipes, 1 to even 1.8 kilograms are added per batch. In the case of erythritol, much less. For jam production, we use 600 to 800 g per 1 kilogram of fruit, which is consequently a much smaller amount than in the case of sugar. Erythritol not only contains very few calories (about 20 calories per 100 grams, while sugar has about 380 calories per 100 grams) but also has a zero glycemic index, so it can be used by diabetics..

Erythritol – the healthiest sugar in the world. Who can eat it?

Until recently, sugar substitutes were mainly available in health food stores. Today, they can be purchased in most supermarkets. Erythritol is safe not only for diabetics, but also for people with insulin resistance, hormonal disorders and cardiovascular diseases.. It is not without reason that this sugar substitute is called one of the healthiest sugars in the world. As the diabetyk24.pl portal states: “We do not have an enzyme that could break down this sweetener. Thanks to this, erythritol does not affect the level of glucose and insulin in the blood. Its glycemic index (GI) is zero, which makes it a sweetener friendly to people with diabetes, people with insulin resistance and people on a diet.”
