This is the best result since the success of “Oppenheimer”. New disaster film takes cinemas by storm

“Twisters” is the undisputed hit of this summer. The production far exceeded financial expectations of the opening weekend and even equaled the statistics of “Oppenheimer”.

Reviewers have dubbed Lee Isaac Chung’s latest disaster film the hit of the summer even before it hit the box office. And they were right. “Twisters,” starring Glen Powell, is taking theaters by storm.

“Twisters” Conquers Cinemas. The Result Exceeded All Expectations

Before the premiere of the film based on the 1996 film “Twister,” it was estimated that the new version of the title would earn about $50 million in theaters. The production significantly exceeded forecasts. As reported by Variety, “Twisters” earned a whopping $80.5 million in its opening weekend in 4,151 theaters in North America.

This is the third highest result this year. The first place belongs to “Inside Out 2”, which earned a whopping $154 million in its first weekend, and the second place on the list is occupied by “Dune 2” with a result of $82 million. This means that Universal Pictures can boast the first live-action film to achieve the same sales result as last year’s “Oppenheimer” – the studio’s most famous premiere at the time.

‘Twisters’ is Universal Pictures’ best film since ‘Oppenheimer’

The excellent sales results match the film’s reception by viewers and critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, moviegoers rated the production 92 percent, while reviewers rated it 78.

“‘Twisters’ is a breathless watch. It’s silly, but not silly, spectacular entertainment that leaves us with many reflections. It’s a film that maintains a perfect balance between drawing on its predecessor and new ideas, flashy showmanship and engaging drama in which lives are at stake,” I wrote in my review of the film. “And although he’s dusty on the screen, Glen Powell shines. This is his film and his era in entertainment cinema, of which he is becoming the king before our eyes. The star of ‘Hit Man’ balances the features of a charming lover who sweeps you off your feet and a nice boy next door, a confident sly guy and a lost boy. He intimidates with charisma and steals attention whenever he appears on the screen,” I added.
